Trekking around the woods is something I like doing in my daily life, so I'm always excited when work calls for it too. I met up with Maris and Josh in one of the prettiest parts of the city: northwest Philly near Wissahickon Valley Park. We started outside their new home and then drove over to historic Rittenhouse Town, and spent some time exploring the nearby trails. It was a gorgeous autumn day and we were lucky to schedule right at golden hour, for truly dreamy light. As a photographer who works in a documentary style, engagement shoots usually involve more posing and looking at the camera than any other type of shoot I do. But it's important that a couple feels like they can just be themselves. So when planning a shoot like this, I brainstorm with my subjects about the places where they like to go and the things they do together. Then we craft the shoot around that.
